PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The AWARALA POWER PLANT will be the first utility-scale power plant implementing the groundbreaking ECS-SOLAR technology (Solar with Mechanical Induction) under a private initiative. With a total of 19.9-megawatts of installed capacity, the grid connected power plant will generate clean and renewable energy to feed the Colombian power grid in South America providing a source of power that addresses both energy security and climate change. The power plant will be directly connected to the nearby Toluviejo electrical substation in the Caribbean coast area.

The AWARALA POWER PLANT is an environmentally friendly renewable energy generation plant that uses an innovative technology (ECS-SOLAR) that is fed with photovoltaic solar energy stored, controlled and released in the form of electromagnetic pulses to cause hyper expansion levels in a Nano-fluid closed circuit system that is in turned transformed into high pressure to induce kinetic energy over a turbine and generator coupling system. The Nano-fluid decays in time as it is expanded and contracted in the closed circuit system and needs to be replaced at regular time intervals. To achieve a total capacity of 19.9 MW, the project implements 26 ECS-SOLAR generation units with a power rating of 768 kW (960 kVA) each and has two stand-by units for a total of 28 generation units installed in the power plant. The two stand-by generation units along with independent battery banks for energy storage at each unit allow for the power plant to achieve a 95% capacity factor.

AWARALA POWER PLANT is located near the Caribbean coast region in Colombia - South America. It is inside the municipality of Toluviejo, a small rural town in the Sucre state and just 20 kms north the capital city of the Sucre state, Sincelejo. The total capital or installed project cost for the project, which includes the structuring and permitting costs since the beginning of 2011 is US$52.2 million for an installed capacity of 19,9 MW.
